Christian County Public School System Superintendent Chris Bentzel says they will keep moving forward with in-person instruction.
Speaking in a press conference Tuesday, Superintendent Bentzel says they continue to see a low number of COVID-19 cases in the schools, though there has been a small increase lately. As of Tuesday afternoon, there are 25 active cases—five are in the Virtual Learning Academy, 11 were in-person students and nine were faculty or staff.
The governor set down new recommendations recently concerning ‘red’ incidence rate counties, of which Christian County has been often, and while Superintendent Bentzel says that rate is a good indicator that they watch, they won’t use only it to make to decisions about in-person instruction.
He feels like the school system is doing a great job keeping their students safe and they continue to work closely with local health officials to monitor the spread of COVID-19.
Millbrooke Elementary is the most active school at the moment, with three positive students and four positive staff members, with Bentzel saying other students are also experiencing illness unrelated to coronavirus—in the district as a whole, there are 74 people in close contact quarantine. Superintendent Bentzel says they’re still speaking with parents and students with moving middle school students back to a traditional, five days a week in-person model, but they will ultimately depend on COVID-19 data and the school board’s decision.
