Gov. Beshear urges people to wear a mask as COVID-19 numbers climb

Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear says face masks are crucial in the fight against COVID-19, as cases continue to rise across the state.

According to a news release, there were 1,457 new cases of coronavirus in the Commonwealth from Thursday to Friday and 16 new deaths. Friday’s deaths include a 75-year old woman from Logan County and an 86-year old woman from Marshall County. The positivity increased slightly again, now up to 5.34 percent.

Governor Beshear says, “This week has been a tough week, with three out of the five highest days for new COVID-19 cases. This virus is everywhere. It is in your community. We need every community doing what it takes to defeat it.”

The governor and his family come out of quarantine Saturday morning, after testing negative for COVID-19 multiple times. The Tennessee Department of Health reported 3,606 new COVID-19 cases there, along with 65 new deaths.
