Relay for Life taking place Saturday with some changes

A different form of Relay for Life is taking place Saturday afternoon, and survivors, caretakers and community members are invited to drive-through.

Relay Chair Pam Futrell says Relay has been impacted hard by COVID-19 this year, from fundraising to restrictions, so they had to abandon their original plans to hold it at the Sportsplex.  It will now take place drive-through style from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the Justice Center and Futrell says there will be teams set up to cheer for survivors, but there won’t be anything for sale this year.

She says while fundraising has been down this year, people can still donate both at the event and by going online to acs.org.

Futrell says that despite the challenges, she’s feeling good—they still raised $81,000, and that will go to benefit cancer research and those who are battling the disease.

The theme of this year’s Relay is “Hope is Contagious” and Futrell says they’re already planning to come back bigger and better than ever in 2021.
