Purdue is filing an appeal to allow head football coach Jeff Brohm to communicate remotely Saturday for the season opening game with Iowa in West Lafayette. Brohm is self-quarantined after a positive COVID-19 test. The Boilermakers are waiting to hear from the NCAA Division One Oversight Committee on the petition. Brohm’s younger brother Brian will serve as head coach against the Hawkeyes.

The New York Giants are activating wide receiver Sterling Shepard off injured reserve. According to NFL Network, there’s also a chance Shepard could suit up when the Giants take on the Eagles tonight in Philadelphia. The wide receiver had been on IR with a toe injury and hasn’t taken the field for New York since Week 2 in Chicago.

The Boston Red Sox are continuing their managerial search. According to MLB Network, team officials interviewed Pittsburgh Pirates bench coach Don Kelly for the opening. Kelly has also interviewed for the Detroit Tigers’ manager’s position. The Red Sox are in need of a new captain at the helm after parting ways with 2020 manager Ron Roenicke at the end of the season.
