Indictments returned in fatal hit and run, attempted murder cases

An indictment was handed down Friday by a Christian County grand jury against the Crofton man arrested in August for a fatal hit and run collision that killed a bicyclist.

The indictment against 58-year old Alan Barnett of Crofton is for leaving the scene of an accident with a death or serious injury.

Barnett had been headed north in the 13000 block of Madisonville Road about 5:40 a.m. on August 19 when he struck a bicycle ridden by 20-year old Jared Yoder of Crofton. Yoder was pronounced dead at the scene and Barnett kept driving.

Deputies from the Christian County Sheriff’s Department arrested Barnett at his home two days later.

The grand jury also indicted 44-year old Brian Ellis of Hopkinsville for two counts of attempted murder, six counts of first-degree wanton endangerment, possession of methamphetamine and tampering with evidence.

The Christian County Sheriff’s Office responded to a shots fired call in the 2900 block of Dawson Springs Road on September 1 and soon received a second call of gunfire in the 10000 block of Hart Road that struck a vehicle.

Police say Ellis fired the gunshots from his car into the Dawson Springs Road home and into the vehicle on Hart Road. Ellis was allegedly trying to kill a man and woman who were in the house and later in the vehicle.

The drugs were allegedly found in Ellis’ home and vehicle on Wallace Avenue at the time of his arrest.
