A Madisonville man was killed in a coal-mining accident Tuesday night in Hopkins County.
Officials say 58-year-old Phillip Ramsey was killed after being struck by a piece of mobile equipment at Cardinal Mine in Madisonville.
Coworkers performed first aid as Ramsey was transported to the surface, where they were met by first responders who were unable to resuscitate him. He was pronounced dead at the scene. An investigation by Warrior Coal and state and federal agencies is underway.
