U.S. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and Democratic Challenger Amy McGrath faced off Monday night in what is scheduled to be their only debate before the general election.
McConnell touted his power in Washington as the leader of the Senate as reason for Kentuckians to keep him for another term.
McGrath accused him of being the reason for political gridlock and failures in Washington.
McGrath believes the Senate should wait until next year to confirm a new Supreme Court justice, while Senator McConnell touted Judge Amy Coney Barrett’s qualifications and intends to go ahead with a vote as soon as possible.
Regarding another COVID stimulus package that would provide checks to the American people, McConnell blamed House Speaker Nancy Pelosi for her unwillingness to compromise with Republicans.
McGrath called that an excuse and accused McConnell of taking a summer “vacation” while Kentuckians struggled amid the pandemic economic downturn.
McGrath says she wants to solve criminal justice reform, while McConnell says Washington Democrats have held been holding up reform.
