Gov. Beshear announces 776 new COVID cases, 14 more deaths

Governor Andy Beshear announced 776 new COVID-19 cases and 14 more deaths related to the pandemic in Kentucky Tuesday.

Numbers are pretty similar to last week’s figures two days in and Governor Beshear says he’s going to be looking and hoping for a trend of stabilization.

At least 111 of those new cases are ages 18 and under and five of the deaths were Henderson County residents. Five residents of Henderson County were among the 14 new deaths.

Kentucky’s positivity rate is up slightly to 4.59 percent and Public Health Commissioner Dr. Steven Stack says beginning next week, that rate will be calculated using data inputted through an automated system that should make the calculations more consistent from day to day.

Dr. Stack went over the incidence maps, noting more of Kentucky’s rural counties—including Christian, Todd, Muhlenberg and Hopkins—have been in the red recently than earlier in the pandemic.

Governor Beshear says the number of hospitalizations has been on the rise the last several days, but Kentucky is still in good shape as far as hospital capacity.

Tennessee reported 1,147 new cases and 23 coronavirus deaths Tuesday. Montgomery County added 17 new cases, Robertson increased by nine and Stewart County has one new case.
