The candidates for Hopkinsville City Council in Ward 11 recently debated in a League of Women Voters forum.
Republican incumbent Jason Bell is opposed by Democratic challenger Steve Hoover and all registered voters who live in the city limits of Hopkinsville can vote in the race.
Asked to name two challenges facing the city, Bell noted division in the community and the need to find additional funding for the city’s pension system—which he wants to solve without raising taxes, if possible.
Hoover wants city council to be more responsive to its citizens and wants new economic development.
Hoover believes voters should decide via a question on the ballot whether the city transitions to non-partisan elections and Bell supports non-partisan elections—even though he voted no earlier this year to give citizens more time to learn about the proposed change.
