Gov. Beshear in quarantine, Ky. posts record weekly total of new COVID-19 cases

Kentucky marked another week with the most new cases of COVID-19 since the pandemic began and Governor Andy Beshear and his family are in quarantine after a direct exposure to a person with the virus.

In a video Sunday, the governor says he and his family were exposed through a member of his security detail who drove with them on Saturday. The security trooper learned of his positive status later that day.

Beshear says they were not in contact with anyone else following the exposure.

He says he and his family all tested negative and feel great and he will deliver his pandemic updates virtually this week.

The governor says everyone in the vehicle was wearing a facial covering.

Meanwhile, he announced 852 new coronavirus cases Sunday—meaning there were a record 7,675 new cases in a week’s time. The governor also announced three more deaths—including the 60-year old male who died Saturday in Hopkins County.

At least 90 of the new cases are children 18 and under and 23 were five or younger.

Tennessee reported 2,068 new cases and nine additional deaths. There were 23 new cases in Montgomery County, 16 new in Robertson and 14 new in Stewart.
