City of Hopkinsville to host new drive-thru Halloween event

Trick-or-Tricking is one of many things impacted by COVID-19 this year, and the City of Hopkinsville is changing up their annual Halloween event.

According to a news release, Hopkinsville Parks and Recreation is adjusting to Christian County Health Department recommendations by converting the traditional Downtown Trick-or-Treat to a drive-thru option that will take place Friday, October 30 at Trail of Tears Park. The first-ever Halloween Scare-A-Van will take place that afternoon from 3:30 p.m. until 5:30 p.m.

This is open to all clubs, organizations and businesses in Christian County to participate in giving out candy. Other than providing the candy, there is no fee for groups to obtain a space along the drive-thru path and each participating group will be provided a 6-foot piece of PVC that must be used to distribute candy.

The event is completely drive-thru only and no foot traffic will be allowed on site.

All vendors will be required to have temperatures checked, answer questions about recent health and wear masks and gloves during the event. Vendors must reserve a spot by calling 270-887-4290 and the deadline to do so is Wednesday, October 28.

All vendors who participate will be entered into a contest where they can show off their decorating abilities—the first place winner will win a cash prize.  Parks and Recreation Superintendent Tab Brockman says, “Throughout the pandemic, our team has become accustomed to adjusting on the fly and finding creative ways to serve our community while staying within the COVID-related boundaries, and this is just another example of that. We hope families will come join us for this unique Halloween event and make the inaugural Street of Treats a fun success.”
