Dyslexia Association continues to serve community during pandemic

The Dyslexia Association of the Pennyrile is continuing to serve the community even in the midst of a worldwide pandemic, and they’re asking for the community’s help.

Director Vicky Jones spoke with the Rotary Club of Hopkinsville Tuesday and says that although COVID-19 did have an effect on them, they were lucky in the sense that their learning program could quickly be adapted to an at home setting.

She says they continue to advocate, do screenings and provide educational services, and have served over 5,000 students.

Jones says they depend on the generosity of their donors to provide those services to those in need, and she thanked the community for their continued support.

October is Dyslexia Awareness Month—dyslexia is a learning disorder where a person has difficulty reading due to problems identifying speech and how they relate to letters and words, effecting the area of the brain that processes language. Jones says if there’s anyone out there in need of help, or interested in donating, they can call 270-885-5804.
