The candidates for Hopkinsville City Council in Ward 5 recently debated in a forum hosted by the local League of Women Voters.
Incumbent Republican Amy Craig is challenged by independent candidate Don Pemberton. Craig teaches at University Heights Academy and Pemberton has a background in management in the agriculture field.
Asked about challenges facing Hopkinsville, Pemberton says lack of population growth is holding the city back.
Craig wants to increase morale in the city and says the city can do a better job of educating citizens about programs available to increase home ownership.
Craig reiterated her support for non-partisan city elections and while Pemberton says he supports the measure, he’d like to see it put on the ballot for voters to decide.
