Ky. gains record number of new COVID-19 cases

Kentucky had it’s highest recorded day of COVID-19 cases since the pandemic began Saturday, with Governor Andy Beshear announcing 1,275 new cases.

It was also the week of the highest reported numbers in the state, with the governor saying that people need to step up now and stop this spread in it’s tracks, or things are going to get worse.

It puts the total in the state at 72,001 and the positivity rate has risen to 4.77 percent. He says with number of high ranking officials testing positive for coronavirus, it just proves that it can affect any one at any time—and he says Monday, they’ll be talking about enforcement of guidelines.

Eight more Kentuckians have died—the total of Kentuckians now lost to the virus is 1,205. The COVID-19 testing positive rate, based on a seven-day rolling average, taking into account total positive tests reported by laboratories divided by total tests reported by labs, stood at 4.74 percent.

The Tennessee Department of Health is reporting 1,192 new cases there, up to 199,595, and 45 new deaths, putting that total at 2,560.
