The Cincinnati Reds left 13 men on base as the Atlanta Braves took the opener of their Wild Card series 1-0 in 13 innings. Reds starter Trevor Bauer had 12 strikeouts over seven-plus innings of work as the two teams’ hitters combined for a postseason record 37 strikeouts.

In extra innings, Cincinnati loaded the bases several times but couldn’t score while the Braves Freddie Freeman was able to get a walk-off single in the 13th to end the game. The Reds now face an elimination game this afternoon when they play the Braves again with first pitch scheduled for 11 am.

Paul Goldschmidt homered as the St. Louis Cardinals took down the San Diego Padres 7-4 in Game One of the NL Wild Card Round in San Diego. Game two is this afternoon at Petco Park.

Corey Dickerson drilled a go-ahead, three-run homer in a five-run seventh inning as the Miami Marlins beat the Chicago Cubs 5-1 in Game One of their NL Wild Card series at Wrigley Field. Game two is today.
