Burn restrictions in Kentucky start October 1st

With the start of October comes the start of Kentucky’s fall burn restriction season, with local volunteer fire departments reminding citizens of the measure.

The burn restriction last from October 1 through December 15 and permits no burning between the hours of 6 a.m. and 6 p.m.  The reason for that timeline is due to increased dryness of vegetation, increased wind speeds during the day and the fact that humidity drops during the heat of the day.

Fire fighters remind residents that all fires should be attended to until totally extinguished.  Officials say so far this year, 278 wildland fires have burned more than 3,700 acres in Kentucky, and although that’s not as active as 2019, conditions can easily changes to make wildfires more likely.  Statistics show that 99 percent of all wildfires in Kentucky are human-caused.

Kentucky has another burn restriction time frame that falls in between February 15 and April 30.
