City of Hopkinsville reinstating some COVID-19 restrictions

The City of Hopkinsville will be reinstating some COVID-19 restrictions, in response to recommendations set down by the Christian County Health Department.

Starting in October, all City Council and Committee of the Whole meetings will return to a virtual format. According to a news release, this decision is substantially due to the community’s current upward trend in COVID-19 positive cases and the City’s responsibility to limit exposure through close contact as much as possible. City officials will reevaluate this decision on a monthly basis to decide if virtual meetings should continue or in-person meetings should resume.

Meanwhile, the Parks and Recreation Department will close all city parks, with the exception of the Hopkinsville Dog Park and the Hopkinsville Greenway System.  The Jennie Stuart-Planter’s Bank Sportsplex, Thomas Recreation Center and Tie Breaker Athletic Park will remain open to walking only, until the health department gives further recommendation.

The Sportsplex was slated to begin a new season of its Indoor Turf Soccer League on Sunday, but those games have been postponed until after October 2.

These actions follow after the health department, along with the state and federal government, classified Christian County as a ‘critical’ zone for COVID-19 spread.
