Christian County 2030 Vision Plan unveiled in State of Community event

The Christian County Vision Plan 2030 was unveiled Thursday morning at the State of the Community virtual series event.

Chamber of Commerce President Kelli Pendleton went over the highlights and says there will be announcements regarding agri-tourism in the near future.

Improving all aspects of education has been a major part of each incarnation of the vision plan and Pendleton says the local public school system has to improve its ranking in the state for Christian County to have a better shot at major economic development initiatives.

The vision plan includes forming a pipeline of diverse community leaders and elected officials, improving voter turnout and lowering the county’s crime rate. You can read the entire plan at christiancountyvision.org.

Oak Grove Mayor Theresa Jarvis spoke about her community, saying Oak Grove Racing, Gaming and Hotel continues hiring and continues to draw crowds.

Christian County Treasurer Walter Cummings noted that repairs have been completed at the Senior Center and at Ruff Park—which were both heavily damaged by severe straight-line winds in January.

Hopkinsville Mayor Wendell Lynch went over financial numbers during the current fiscal year and says economic development and housing are priorities going forward.

Mayor Lynch and Pendleton talked about the need to increase the rate of home ownership in Christian County.
