CCHD announces 20th COVID death, makes recommendations as county in ‘critical’ zone

The Christian County Health Department announced the county’s 20th COVID-19 death during its Wednesday afternoon update.

The 86-year old white female also had underlying conditions, according to the health department.

With 260 new cases reported in the last two weeks in Christian County, the county is firmly in the critical zone, as defined by the state.

The Christian County Health Department is now recommending that only one member of a family or a household go into a business and that places of worship find alternative means of worshiping instead of meeting in person.

They also recommend the discontinuation of all extracurricular activity and sports for all ages, including community and schools.

The health department recommends discontinuing social and community events for all ages and limiting visitors to hospitals and long-term care facilities, except for end of life situations.

They advise residents to refrain from attending social get-togethers, sports parties, block parties and other similar events.

Again, all of the guidance is a recommendation at this point and is in effect through October 2.

There were 21 new COVID-19 cases Wednesday in Christian County, bringing the overall total to 1,239. At least 1,000 of those cases have recovered and 219 are active.
