Chicago Bears Hall of Fame running back Gale Sayers has died at the age of
77. Sayers’ relatives said he was diagnosed with dementia, and in March 2017 his wife said she partly blamed his football career. Sayers was the fourth overall pick in 1965 after becoming a two-time All-American at Kansas, but he was limited to just 68 games in his seven seasons with Chicago due to injuries to both of his knees.

He was also known for his friendship with cancer-stricken teammate Brian Piccolo, which was depicted in the film ”Brian’s Song.” Sayers was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1977.
