Gov. announces 796 new COVID-19 cases, five deaths

Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear gave an update on COVID-19 in the state and called on Attorney General Daniel Cameron to release information about the Breonna Taylor case that resulted in an indictment of one of the three officers involved.

There were 796 new cases of COVID-19, bringing the overall total up to 63,517—the positivity rate is sitting at 4.59 percent.  Governor Beshear says even in the midst of turmoil, people must remember that this pandemic is still ongoing and health and safety guidelines must still be followed.

He called on Attorney General Cameron to release the details of the investigation into the Breonna Taylor case in Louisville, as he feels Kentuckians have the right to that information.  State Representative Charles Booker says a lot of people are feeling pain right now, but justice was never really about charges against the officers—it’s about stepping up and creating lasting change.

The Governor it’s everyone’s right to protest, and he called for calm in the face of the announcement. Five more Kentuckians have died in relation to COVID-19, putting that total at 1,124.

The Tennessee Department of Health is reporting 1,561 new COVID-19 cases and 14 new deaths—Montgomery County reported 44 new cases, Robertson gained 15 and Stewart County added five new cases.
