United Way kicks off campaign with drive-thru breakfast

Cars made their way  around a rainy Trail of Tears Park Tuesday morning to help the United Way of the Pennyrile kick off its campaign with a drive-thru breakfast.

The normal kickoff event that draws hundreds to the Senior Center had to be shelved due to the pandemic, but that didn’t stop campaign chairs and local agencies from showing their support in a safer way.

Tamara Hunter of the Aaron McNeil House says that agency is benefitted by the United Way’s campaign and those funds are as important now as they’ve ever been.

She says many of the 20 agencies that serve Christian, Trigg, Caldwell and Todd counties have seen an increased need in the community during the pandemic.

The Hopkinsville-Christian County Public Library has already begun its fundraising campaign and Imagination Library Coordinator Megan Marsh says they’re off to a good start.

The theme of this year’s campaign is United We Win and attendees of the kickoff got to listen to a history of the organization told by William Turner through their FM radio.
