CCPS Superintendent discusses continuing in-person instruction

In a press conference with local media Tuesday, Christian County Public Schools Superintendent Chris Bentzel reiterated that he intends to keep students in school in-person at least until fall break.

As of Tuesday afternoon, the school system has two school staff members, one central office staff member, 21 in-person students and five Virtual Learning Academy students who are labeled as active COVID-19 cases.  Bentzel says he intends to have students go until fall break on the in-person schedule they are currently, as he feels mitigation efforts have been successful.

He says fall break will still happen as planned in October, and if things still look good then they’ll continue this current model after students return.

The COVID-19 Data Dashboard has changed to a spreadsheet style format—Bentzel says they think it will be easier to read for people to get the information they need.

Bentzel says he and other school officials continue to work closely with the Christian County Health Department—he says Christian County is in the ‘red zone’ on incidence rate, but he says who have to look at the overall picture before making a decision to close schools and they will be even more vigilant than ever going forward.
