Ribbon cut, games held for unveiling of new Ruff Park baseball fields

The baseball fields at Ruff Park in Hopkinsville are open and ready for kids to play ball, following a ribbon cutting event held Saturday morning.

In January, Ruff Park was significantly impacted by severe weather, causing extensive damage to the fields and other aspects of the park.  Thanks to a generous donation from Sparkling Ice out of Seattle, Washington, Hopkinsville’s Christian County Youth League Director Jonathan Zordell says these new fields will be able to be enjoyed by kids for many years to come.

Hopkinsville Mayor Wendell Lynch says this was a joint effort on the part of many and it’s a great investment in the youth of the community.

Sparkling Ice representative Adam Erdman says they’re always looking for ways to help communities in meaningful ways that brings everyone together.

Two park signs were unveiled, also donated by Sparkling Ice. The fields were immediately broken in on Saturday, with baseball games set to be held throughout the morning and early afternoon. Families cheered as players dirtied uniforms, churned up dust and enjoyed the new fields that showed no evidence of the storm that once put them out of commission.
