Commissioner Rob Manfred tells the Washington Post the expanded playoff format implemented for the COVID shortened season will stay beyond this year. Manfred said many MLB owners had endorsed the expanded playoffs before the pandemic. Ten teams will play this year, with the owners hopeful of expanding the field to 16 in the future.
