The Christian County Health Department gave an update on COVID-19 locally Wednesday, reporting 14 new confirmed cases and that there are currently eight people hospitalized.
Those 14 cases brings the overall total up to 1,109, with 155 cases considered active and 937 individuals having recovered from the virus. Christian County has now had 17 COVID-19 related deaths. Free testing continues to be offered at the site at Tie Breaker Park and Amanda Sweeney urged people to continue to take advantage of that resource.
Public Health Director Kayla Bebout says many of the new cases—74 just within the last few days—are coming in clusters, and she believes many of them may have been due to the Labor Day Weekend.
Beth McCraw with Jennie Stuart Health reported that there are currently eight COVID-19 positive patients in the hospital, with one of those patients on a ventilator. The positivity rate, just through the CCHD testing site, for the month of September so far is 7.9 percent—Bebout warns that the actual positivity rate could be higher, due to other health care facilities doing their own testing and reporting to the state.
