Clarksville native Alec Mills is the National League Player of the Week. The award comes after the Chicago Cubs right-hander tossed the 16th no-hitter in franchise history against the Milwaukee Brewers on Sunday. Earlier in the week, Mills threw six scoreless innings against the Cincinnati Reds at Wrigley Field. Along with his spotless ERA, the righty recorded 11 strikeouts in 15 innings across the two outings, winning both.
This is his first career Player of the Week Award for Mills. The 28-year-old is the second Cub to receive National League Player of the Week honors this season.
The Atlanta Braves are signing former Giants world champion Pablo Sandoval to a minor league deal. The third baseman will report to the alternate training site in Gwinnett.
