Hopkinsville’s Out of Darkness Experience Sunday will give participants in the annual walk an opportunity to remember and honor loved ones who died from suicide and it will raise money to hopefully reduce the suicide rate in the future.
Mary Underwood is co-chair of this year’s walk that will be a self-guided route along the Hopkinsville Greenway this year due to COVID-19. She says anyone can walk between 1 and 5 p.m. and it’s a time people can come together and provide support to one another.
The walks have been largely attended by family and friends of those lost to suicide, but Underwood says anyone who wants to support the cause of reducing suicide is welcome.
The event has several sponsors and Underwood says individuals will also have an opportunity to donate to causes that provide outreach, education and advocacy.
Underwood points out that one doesn’t have to donate anything to participate.
The walk begins at the North Drive trailhead and it’s hosted by the Kentucky chapter of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.
