Guilty plea entered in 2019 Russellville shooting case

A resolution has been reached in a Russellville shooting case, with Russell McCarley Jr. set to serve 30 years in prison.

According to a news release from Logan and Todd County Commonwealth’s Attorney Neil Kerr, the shooting occurred in July of 2019 and resulted in Warren Bullard being shot in the hip by McCarley.  Bullard was able to drag himself to safety and call for help—multiple witness identified McCarley as the shooter. The gun used in the shooting, multiple grams of methamphetamine, cocaine and pills were found in a backpack that had been hidden and had McCarley’s ID and wallet inside of it.

On September 4, McCarley entered a guilty plea to the charges of first-degree wanton endangerment, first-degree assault, fourth-degree assault, three counts of trafficking in a controlled substance, possession of a handgun by a convicted felon and tampering with physical evidence.

McCarley agreed to waive a separate final sentencing, and Circuit Judge Joe Hendricks sentenced him to serve 30 years. He had been set to go to trial on September 14.
