Oak Grove Racing, Gaming and Hotel set to open Sept. 18

Although the finishing touches are being done at Oak Grove Racing, Gaming and Hotel, the facility will have a partial opening on September 18, with other aspects set to open in the coming weeks.

The massive horse racing and gaming facility located in Oak Grove has been under construction for over a year, and although it did experience some delays due to COVID-19, Marketing Director Jerry Abner says they’re ready to get the show on the road and welcome people inside.  It will be operating at a limited capacity, at least for now, due to COVID-19—Abner says all those health guidelines everyone is so familiar with now will be followed.

There will be four restaurants at the facility—Garrison Oak Steakhouse, Lucky Lime Tex Mex and SGT. Peppers Po’Boys and Burgers and O’Dark Thirty Coffee House—and two will accessible without going onto the gaming floor.

The gaming floor is home to 1,300 historical racing machines and Abner explained how that works, saying the gaming machines are pari-mutuel machines that use data based on horse races previously run across the United States. Oak Grove Racing and Gaming will be open to the public on September 18, with the hotel portion to open on October 9 and then the return of live harness racing happening on October 14. Still under construction is the outdoor amphitheater and the indoor equestrian center.  There will be a ribbon cutting on September 18.

Around 350 people are currently employed at the facility and Abner says they’re looking to hire even more—the best way to apply for a job there is by going online to oakgrovegaming.com.
