Ky. passes 1,000 COVID-19 related deaths

In a somber press conference Wednesday, Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear announced that the Commonwealth has now lost over 1,000 Kentuckians to COVID-19.

The death toll has reached 1,013, nine of which are considered ‘probable’, with 16 new deaths announced Wednesday, and Governor Andy Beshear says although he knows many states have lost well over that amount, it doesn’t eliminate the fact that each one of those deaths has impacted the state and their families forever.

One of the reported deaths is a 92-year old woman from Calloway County. He says he’ll be ordering flags to half-staff at state buildings to honor those who have been lost—and there will be another wreath laying ceremony in their memory.  Christian County was no longer listed in the ‘red zone’ by the White House but instead as ‘yellow’, according to the governor’s report, but Todd, Trigg and Logan counties were listed as ‘red’.

The governor says the data is possibly showing that the state will see another spike in cases, and while he understands that people are fatigued, he urges everyone to keep up those health guidelines.

There were 667 new cases from Tuesday to Wednesday, and the positivity rate remains below four percent at 3.84 percent.

The Tennessee Department of Health is reporting 833 new cases of COVID-19 there, and 35 deaths. Montgomery County is reporting 22 additional cases, Robertson County saw one new case and Stewart County gained five new cases.
