Gov. Beshear reports 273 new COVID cases, says to except larger numbers this week

In the first live conference following the Labor Day Weekend, Governor Andy Beshear announced 273 new COVID-19 cases Tuesday.

That brings the overall total of cases in the Commonwealth up to 53,319, and Governor Beshear cautioned everyone that with many testing labs being closed for the holiday, they should expect those numbers to go back up—especially in the week following Labor Day.

The positivity rate dropped to below four percent at 3.91 percent, though Governor Beshear says it’s likely that will go back up. One more Kentuckian was reported to have died from the virus, bringing the death toll to 997.

The governor announced the launch of the Healthy At Home Eviction Relief Fund website, urging those who are at risk of possible eviction due to inability to pay rent because of the pandemic to apply for aid.

The Tennessee Department of Health reported 645 new COVID-19 cases there, up to 165,754 in total, and 27 new deaths, up to 1,896.  Montgomery County gained nine new cases, Robertson County saw 23 new cases and Stewart County gained one additional case.
