The Christian County Health Department gave an update on COVID-19 locally via live press conference Wednesday afternoon.
The county saw an increase of eight new confirmed cases of COVID-19, bringing the overall total to 902—of that, 228 cases are considered active and 660 individuals have recovered from the virus. Christian County has had 14 COVID-19 related deaths. Between the health department and Jennie Stuart Health, 15,498 tests have been performed locally.
Amanda Sweeney with the health department says just within a month’s time, the overall case total increased by 327 cases.
She says the positivity rate for the last seven days is 9.7 percent, and for the month of August it was 10.3 percent. Christian County has been labelled a ‘red zone’ by the White House and Public Health Director Kayla Bebout explained what the means, saying it’s measured by positivity rate and new cases.
Jennie Stuart Health CEO and President Eric Lee reported that there are currently six COVID-19 positive patients hospitalized and soon they will be approaching their 100th COVID-19 patient served.
The health department warned about potential scams in the community relating to the pandemic, and reminded everyone to never give out personal information, including a social security number, or financial information out over the phone.
