Reds fall to Cardinals 7-5, make trades Monday

Paul DeJong clubbed a grand slam as the St. Louis Cardinals stopped the Cincinnati Reds 7-5 last night. Eugenio Suarez made things interesting with a three-run homer in the ninth for Cincinnati. He drove in four runs in all. Anthony DeSclafani got chased in the fourth to take the loss.

The Reds have lost three-of-four as the teams meet again this evening at Great American Ball Park with pregame at 5:10 on News Radio 95.3 FM/1230 AM WHOP.

The Cincinnati Reds are welcoming the additions of a reliever and outfielder after making deals with the Arizona Diamondbacks and Los Angeles Angels yesterday. The Reds sent infielder Josh Van Meter and outfielder Stuart Fairchild to Arizona for closer Archie Bradley who has six saves in ten games this season.

Cincinnati also got outfielder Brian Goodwin from Los Angeles in exchange for minor leaguer Packy Naughton and a player to be named later. The Reds finished the day by calling up outfielder Aristides Aquino.

Meanwhile, Reds manager David Bell and outfielder Jesse Winker were handed one-game suspensions for their parts in a benches-clearing brawl against the Chicago Cubs last Saturday. MLB announced the disciplinary action with Bell and Winker both being suspended and fined for excessive arguing and leaving the bench against COVID-19 protocols. Winker has appealed while Bell served his suspension last night.
