Fall sports in Kentucky still on following KDE meeting Friday

Following a nearly four hour meeting Friday, the Kentucky Board of Education voted 10-0 to authorize the Kentucky Department of Education to compose a letter urging the Kentucky High School Athletic Association to consider alternative options for high-contact fall sports. The board heard from KHSAA Commissioner Julian Tackett and Kentucky Health Commissioner Dr. Steven Stack. KDE interim commissioner Kevin Brown reiterated the board would not ask the KHSAA to cancel fall sports. However, board chairman Lu Young indicated alternative options possibly would include additional guidance, looking at what other states are doing and responding to the concerns shared during Friday’s meeting.
