Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear gave an update on COVID-19 in the state Thursday, announcing 775 new cases and 8 new deaths.
That brings the number of overall cases up to 45,978, with the positivity rate bouncing back up to 4.84 percent, with Governor Beshear saying it’s likely that number will go back and forth from below five percent to above it for the foreseeable future. The governor also says the data is showing Kentucky is in a plateau once again, but he feels the numbers are still much too high.
Twenty-three percent of the new positive cases were youth under the age of 18. Eight more Kentuckians have died, bringing that total to 910. Senior Advisor Rocky Adkins says his father has successfully recovered from COVID-19 and he is very blessed—but he urged people not to forget those whose family members were lost to this virus.
The next live press conference with Governor Beshear will be Monday, when he intends to make an announcement concerning possible aid for childcare facilities throughout the state. The remnants of Hurricane Laura will make its way through Kentucky over the weekend and Governor Beshear says emergency management is tracking it closely—he also expressed his concern and said his thoughts and prayers go out to the people in Louisiana and Texas who were hit hardest.
The Tennessee Department of Health is reporting a new 1,826 cases of COVID-19, putting the total at 149,179 and 25 new deaths, up to 1,673. Montgomery County gained 41 new cases, Robertson County saw nine new cases and Stewart County gained one new case.
