Flash Flood Watch Friday as Laura moves in

A Flash Flood Watch remains in effect from 7 a.m. Friday until 1 a.m. Saturday for all of western Kentucky as the remnants of Hurricane Laura will bring heavy rain and gusty winds to the region.

National Weather Service in Paducah Warning Coordination Meteorologist Rick Shanklin says widespread amounts of two to three inches of rain are likely across the region—with isolated higher totals.

A majority of flash flood related deaths come from motorists driving through standing water. Shanklin reminds anyone encountering a flooded road to turn around, don’t drown.

There is a slight risk for severe weather across the region Friday and Shanklin says isolated tornadoes will be the primary threat.
