Flash flooding, damaging winds and brief spin-up tornadoes will all be possible in western Kentucky and northern middle Tennessee as the remnants of Hurricane Laura trek across the area Friday and Friday night.
A Flash Flood Watch has been issued from 7 a.m. Friday until 1 a.m. Saturday for all of western Kentucky
Widespread rainfall amounts of one to three inches appear possible, along with localized higher amounts, according to National Weather Service in Paducah Meteorologist Sean Poulos, who says flash flooding will be a threat where the highest amounts fall.
He says another concern will be the potential for strong winds as the surface low moves right across the area. The potential exists for wind gusts of at least 25-35 mph, particularly across the southern part of the region, with higher gusts at times in isolated locations.
Severe thunderstorms and isolated tornadoes will also be possible in the region as the storm moves from west to east.
