The case of Tyreese Hollowell, the man charged with murder in the East First Street fatal shooting that took place August 14 and resulted in the death of Tiffany Hinton Gray and injured another victim now heads to the grand jury.
Hollowell appeared with public defender Doug Moore in the District Courtroom of Judge Foster Cotthoff for a preliminary hearing Monday. Hopkinsville Police Detective Randall Greene testified on the investigation and says there were multiple Facebook live videos of the event that occurred on East First Street around 2 a.m. and the videos show a teenage male in a confrontation with Hollowell, when Gray—the teen’s mother—stepped between them holding a gun.
Gray reportedly sustained multiple gunshot wounds, though Detective Greene says it’s unclear how the shooting began.
The second person injured in the shooting, 17-year old Kanina Willingham, was sitting in a car nearby and is still lodged in Vanderbilt University Medical Center for those injuries—Gray would die from her injuries.
Detective Greene says there were witnesses on the scene who identified Hollowell as the shooter and the videos also show Hollowell brandishing a firearm—Hollowell has not given his own statement to the police and around 40 shell casings were found on the scene. Judge Cotthoff determined there was probable cause and sent the case onto the grand jury for consideration of indictment. He also left Hollowell’s bond at $1 million.
