Scottie Scheffler set a TPC Boston course record by carding a 12-under 59 during the second round of The Northern Trust, the first of three tournaments comprising the season-ending FedEx Cup playoffs. The 24-year-old rookie recorded the 12th round of under 60 in a PGA Tour event. Dustin Johnson nearly matched Scheffler, shooting an 11-under 60 to lead the tournament at 15 under. Louisville area native Justin Thomas is tied for 20th at seven under par while Nashville’s Brandt Snedeker missed the cut.

Franklin’s Kenny Perry lost in the first hole of a playoff Friday at the PGA Tour Champions Charles Schwab Challenge at Big Cedar Lodge. Perry, Shane Bertsch, Bernhard Langer and Glen Day all finished regulation at 18 under. Bertsch chipped in for an eagle three on the first playoff hole for his first PGA Tour Champions win.
Phil Mickelson announced Friday he will make his PGA Tour Champions debut Monday when play begins at the Charles Schwab Series at Ozarks National.
