Wesley Grimes, longtime councilman and business owner, dies

Wesley Grimes, a longtime local business owner and city councilman who served Ward 11 for 16 years, has died at the age of 87.

Grimes owned and operated Grimes Butcher Shop on North Drive for 19 years, retired after 33 years at A & P Tea Company and served eight terms on Hopkinsville City Council, concluding at the end of 2018.

Grimes talked about his long tenure during a 2018 debate, attributing it to his willingness to serve the people.

Grimes, who made Hopkinsville his home for the last 57 years, is survived by two children.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Hughart, Beard and Giles Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Green Hill Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from noon until the service hour.
