School board to consider possible learning plans in early September

The Christian County School Board heard an update on going back to school and what the reopening plan could look like at Thursday’s meeting.

Assistant Superintendent of Administration Laura Morris informed the board that as of August 7, two CCPS students had tested positive for COVID-19, along with six staff members, most of which have recovered. Superintendent Chris Bentzel says they’re following all positive tests closely and adhering to guidelines set down by the state and local health officials.

Bentzel says his administration is watching districts that are opening to in-person instruction this month, along with local COVID-19 data, and he will come back with a recommendation on either staying with NTI or going in-person on September 3.

All options for reopening remain on the table for the board to use—including Non-Traditional Instruction, traditional instruction and a hybrid model.  Bentzel says they intend to reopen enrollment for the Virtual Learning Academy, and are currently reaching out to those on waiting lists for the academy.  Approximately 2,328 students are presently enrolled in VLA.

The board voted on and selected the community members who will serve on the long range planning committee concerning district facility plans—those members will be Phillip Garnet, Dan Kemp and David Wimpy.
