Ky. gains 655 new COVID-19 cases, 12 new deaths

Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear announced 655 new cases of COVID-19 in the Commonwealth Wednesday, and 12 new deaths.

It’s the second day in a row with 12 deaths, bringing the overall death toll in the state up to 842 since the pandemic began, and the 655 new cases puts the overall in the state at 40,926. Governor Beshear says about 14 percent of those new cases were children under the age of 18 and the positivity rate is now at 5.41 percent. He says the increase in deaths is a result of the spike in cases that was had recently.

Public Health Commissioner Dr. Steven Stack urged people to keep up the vigilance on mask wearing and frequent hand washing, saying those are the only ways that life will get back to normal faster while waiting for a vaccine.

Kentucky will be applying for additional $400 in federal unemployment benefit money, with Governor Beshear saying $100 of that funding will come from the state.

Two of the 12 deaths were a male and female from Logan County, and one of the deaths was a 42-year old from Warren County. At least 9,331 people have recovered from the virus.

The Tennessee Department of Health is reporting 2,022 new cases of COVID-19, up to 137,800 and 26 new deaths, up to 1,452.  Montgomery County gained 30 new cases, Robertson County saw 28 new cases and Stewart County gained four new cases.
