70th Rotary Auction will proceed without food or crowds

The 70th WHOP Rotary Radio Auction will look very different from any other with no food and no crowd due to COVID-19.

The auction is still set for September 14-19 at the War Memorial Building, but Auction Chair Scott Cowan says you’ll have to listen on WHOP or watch online or on cable TV this year.

Cowan says state regulations for auctions would not allow Rotary to have a crowd or food—especially considering how many Rotarians that are needed to be in the building to make the event successful.

Local schools also won’t be able to help with fundraising efforts this year due to the pandemic.

This year’s theme of Tradition of Service Above Self honors Rotary’s 100 year heritage.

Rotary is still seeking $174 cash donations to join the Hour Club and they need additional items for the auction. One can call Rotary at 270-886-3034 to assist the fundraiser for the Rotary Scholars and student loan programs.
