Hopkinsville payroll tax revenues better than expected in July

Payroll tax collections are ahead of projections one month into the new fiscal year for the City of Hopkinsville.

Chief Financial Officer Robert Martin gave his monthly report Tuesday night to city council and said revenues were about 15 percent down from July of 2019—but better than he had predicted for this point of the pandemic.

Council approved final reading of an ordinance rezoning about 2 acres on East First Street from light industrial to multi-family residential.

Mayor Wendell Lynch and Judge-Executive Steve Tribble presented a proclamation noting the 100 year anniversary of women getting the right to vote in the United States.

Public Works Director Mike Perry presented Trash for Cash checks to the Homeless on the Move organization and to University Heights Academy volleyball team. Homeless on the Move picked up 173 bags of litter along 60 miles of city streets and UHA volleyball collected 22 bags along 11 miles of streets.

Special recognition was given to Martin for receiving the Kentucky League of Cities Master of City Governance certification.
