Trigg grand jury to hear murder case

A Trigg County grand jury will hear the case against a suspect charged with murder in connection with the shooting death of 25-year old Cameron Phillips.

As previously reported, Phillips’ body was found August 6 in a wood line near Old Rocky Point Road. Kentucky State Police Detective David Dick testified during a preliminary hearing Tuesday morning that investigation determined Phillips died from a single gunshot wound to the head and noted Phillips was last seen alive on July 28.

That’s when 31-year old Montie Streeval of Cadiz reportedly admitted to driving Phillips to Trigg County for a drug deal—a meeting that two people told police that Phillips was nervous about.

A woman told KSP that Streeval told her she wouldn’t be seeing Phillips around anymore after the meeting.

Detective Dick says Streeval never admitted to killing Phillips, but he hasn’t denied it.

The detective testified that KSP located suspected methamphetamine, a loaded .40 caliber pistol and an extended magazine for that weapon during searches of his home and vehicles.

District Judge Jamus Redd determined there was probable cause for the case to be heard by the grand jury and also denied a request from defense attorney Jason Pfeil for bond modification.

Streeval is charged with murder and possession of a handgun by a convicted felon.
