Kentucky is expected to finish the week with the most new confirmed cases of COVID-19 since the pandemic began.
That’s according to Governor Andy Beshear, who announced 638 new cases Saturday. The state’s positivity rate has dipped slightly to 5.45 percent.
Six more Kentuckians have died from the virus, marking 810 deaths during the pandemic from the virus.
The governor urged Kentuckians to continue following the social distancing, hand-washing and other guidance necessary to prevent exponential growth.
He again touted the agreement between him and Secretary of State Michael Adams allowing expanded absentee voting and the ability for counties to open more in-person precincts than in the primary.
Philip Bailey of the Courier Journal reported Republican legislators being “furious” with Secretary Adams for the agreement. Adams defended it as more conservative than the popular process used for the primary and quoted President Rutherford B. Hayes in saying “He serves his party best who serves his country best.”
Tennessee gained 1,289 new cases and 19 new deaths Saturday. Montgomery County gained 33 and Robertson County added 14 cases.
