The Christian County School Board has voted to start school with Non-Traditional Instruction on August 27 and then return to in-person instruction on September 28.
This comes after Governor Andy Beshear set down recommendations to delay the start of traditional, in-person classes until that time, due to what he considers too many cases of COVID-19 still being reported across the state. In a special called meeting Wednesday morning, Superintendent Chris Bentzel says he’s disappointed to not begin as planned, but he’s hopeful they’ll be able to get kids back into school buildings in September.
He says this version of NTI will be very different from what took place at the end of last school year, and students should be prepared for a more in depth learning experience.
Bentzel says there will be a three-phase introductory period where students will be able to meet their teachers, get the items they need and know what to expect moving forward.
More information will be released by the school system as plans are finalized and organized. Christian County students who are enrolled in the Virtual Learning Academy will begin their schooling on August 27 as planned and Bentzel says they’ll be examining whether they need to reopen enrollment on that as the September start date approaches, based recommendations from the Christian County Health Department and the Governor’s Office.
