MLB Roundup

The Chicago Cubs begin at two game Interleague series at the Cleveland Indians this evening. The Cubs have not played in several days after their series at St. Louis was canceled due to Covid-19.

Monday’s Recaps
The Atlanta Braves scored seven times in the ninth inning but fell at the Philadelphia Phillies 13-8. The Braves begin a series at the New York Mets this evening.

The St. Louis Cardinals’ doubleheader against the Detroit Tigers on Thursday is being postponed as the club works to control their COVID-19 outbreak. The doubleheader at Comerica Park was supposed to be a makeup of last week’s series postponement when the Cards’ outbreak first began. It’s unknown when the series will be rescheduled.
The move to postpone the doubleheader will allow St. Louis to focus on testing and eliminating the outbreak that has affected ten players and seven staff members in the organization. MLB already postponed the Cardinals-Cubs series over the weekend as well as this week’s series against the Pittsburgh Pirates.

According to reports, MLB is considering holding its postseason in a bubble-type format similar to the NBA. This comes after outbreaks on the St. Louis Cardinals and Miami Marlins postponed several regular season games. It would be difficult for the league to replicate what the NBA has done on such short notice, but it is considering a multi-city format similar to the NHL.

New York Mets pitcher Marcus Stroman has decided to opt out of the 2020 season just as he was nearing a return from injury. Stroman, currently on the injured list with a torn calf muscle, cited the coronavirus outbreaks within the Marlins and Cardinals organizations as the basis for his decision.
