PADD to establish West Kentucky Coalition

The Pennyrile Area Development District continues to serve its nine county region, even in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, and approved a resolution to establish the West Kentucky Coalition at Monday’s meeting.

Hopkins County Judge-Executive Jack Whitfield says the coalition is intended to help western Kentucky counties come together to provide each other with counsel and to help advocate for each other in various settings to make sure the region is getting the attention it needs.

He says it can sometimes seem like western Kentucky is left out of funding decisions or legislative consideration, and this coalition would help ensure things are staying fair across the state.

Judge Whitfield says it’s the hope to eventually hire a part-time executive director to head the group, and it could potentially have associate partners, such as Chambers of Commerce, economic development agencies, businesses and more.

PADD heard updates on their various agencies that are somewhat business as usual, including that of the 30 long-term care facilities in the PADD area, five of them do have COVID-19 positive cases at the facility.
